Nicotine is like any other potentially addictive drug. Some folks used it for a while and just decide to quit while others are captured for years. The problem is you don’t know which category you are in until you try it. For example:
Karen Ann Quinlan

The parents believed that her still being connected constituted extraordinary means of prolonging her life.
Eventually a court ruled that the ventilator could be withdrawn. However, she continued to breathe on her own. She survived another nine years in a persistent vegetative state.”
Any time a person decides to try a possibly addictive drug for the first time the outcome is never known for sure.
