But in the case at hand, it appears that the FBI agents weren't there to serve as agents provocateurs - i.e., they weren't there to incite or provoke "genuine" demonstrators into doing something illegal, after which the uniformed police could then legitimately swoop down and arrest them all (while later discreetly releasing the FBI agents).
Rather, the undercover FBI agents were there merely to discredit the demonstration as a whole.
Very insidious!
