I live in an area where Spectrum is our only terrestrial option. Their customer service is abysmal, and despite paying for business class service, they refuse to provide business class service. Looking forward to replacement options. It wouldn’t take much.
BTTT
Wish I still had a link to the article. It was about things that people think are worse versus things that ARE worse compared to old days.
TV was high on the list for actually worse. For MUCH more money we now get
1. More commercial time than ever
2. Less real choices in quality shows (most good movies even old etc are now pay only)
3. More social messaging
4. General drop in quality of shows
Especially # 1 angers me. The whole idea of pay TV back in the 80s was to decrease commercials.😡
“TV” of course being an all inclusive term
I had Cox Cable for years, mostly because my area had no other options for reliable(?) high speed internet. 90% of what I watch on TV I can get from broadcast. Cox was bleeding me white.
Then Metronet came to town. With an antenna and Roku I get everything I want to watch and only pay for two streaming services.
I cut the Spectrum cable 3 months ago. Haven’t missed it once. They suck anyway.
CEO: “We’re losing costumers ever since our last price hike, what should we do?”
CFO: “The best option to cover rising prices is to hike our rates, that should fix the loss of customer problem.”
Live out in the country and just got Fiber and dumped Spectrum. Cheaper and faster. We had a storm 3 months ago and the wire was severed. I was able to get the new Fiber line run and in service before Spectrum came to fix it. They never came after 3 phone calls.
We dumped cable 6-7 years ago. I honestly don’t even know where our TV is. 😆
Same here. Spectrum (Time Warner) was the monopoly in our town until MetroNet showed up with fiber optic infrastructure. I switched as soon as they dropped lines. I pay half for a whole heck of a lot more now! Don’t miss the surprise billing increases for spotty service.
dropping the cable tv
also has the benefit of stopping funding of cnnmsnbc
they rely on cable subscribers fees to stay in business
cnn’s revenue is one half subscriber fees
c’mon Elon.
Three years ago, Spectrum purchased our local cable company. We were nervous about Spectrum, so we signed up for Dish Network. We were happy with Dish, except for the occasional price hike.
Last weekend, we dumped Dish and signed up for YouTube TV. The price is much lower than Dish and the channel selection is bigger and better. I love it.
We also receive an annoying amount of junk mail from Spectrum. They even send representatives to our home to try to get us to sign with Spectrum.
I was hospitalized in April and the hospital had Spectrum. The programming was atrocious. When we are in town, we often see Spectrum repair vehicles on the road, which isn’t a good sign.
We have Amazon Prime ($12.99/month), and YouTube TV ($58/month). That gets us hundreds of stations, including live TV, and thousands of movies. Never getting cable or satellite again.
Too bad about all those customer service people losing their jobs. I wonder if the 3 I dealt with recently lost theirs. Spectrum gets pressure from the media companies to raise the prices as customers are not watching tv as they once did due to the “woke & DEI” nonsense shows they create. The media people refuse to create normal programs that people want to watch despite losing billions like Disney is doing so they demand the cable companies raise prices which they get a piece of.
Like the car companies raising the gas car prices to subsidize the electric cars.
Rant about cable internet pricing and speed.
I got a noticed that my Spectrum internet bill was to go from $54.99 to $89.99... !
The promotional pricing and gov’t discount was over.
I did a chat on May 31 and the lady cut my bill to $84.99 and lowered my speed from 570mbps to 371mbps and disconnected the chat when she disconnected my modem to reboot it....
The price should go down a lot and not way UP!
This is like cell phone companies charging for texting when voice is using more bandwidth. It cost them nothing. For cable the copper and fiber optics cable is in place and they have lots of bandwidth.
I did another chat and they could do nothing.
I called and I asked what is the lowest speed and they said the lowest speed is 100mbps and would cost a total of $59.99 a month.
So I went from 570mbps to 100mbps.....
This is plenty to stream shows on Roku as they will show sometimes the streaming speed which is just 4mbps <- 4
The internet is fast. I get 117mbps at the Speedtest.net site and the webpages now load much quicker then when I had the higher speed. I tried many sites and they instantly appear. I use Firefox. I know now to call them to reset my modem on their end as when I do it no change happens.
I bet they deliberately slow the loading of websites to “encourage” you to upgrade to a higher priced speed plan which you do not need. They did keep trying to up sell me.
I did mention retention but I was afraid they would call my bluff and disconnect me. I live in an apt and even though ATT fiber line runs past the place they cannot connect.
They have promotional pricing of 300 Mbps Internet.
$49.99 /mo for 12 mos with Auto Pay
BUT that is for new customers only and not the reliable steady customer.
They take advantage of those customers.
Cable owners must like being hated 😠🤬
