The Karen Read case has ended in a mistrial after five days of jury deliberation, but prosecutors said they will retry Read for the alleged murder of her Boston cop boyfriend in January 2022.
Judge Beverly Cannone ruled Monday that the deadlocked jury in Dedham, Massachusetts, is not able to reach a unanimous verdict after jurors sent her notes on Friday and again on Monday that they disagree because of “deeply-held convictions that each of us carry.”
The jury foreman, in his final note to the judge, said, “Our perspectives on the evidence are starkly divided. Some members of the jury firmly believe that the evidence surpasses the burden of proof establishing the elements of the charges beyond a reasonable doubt. Conversely others find the evidence fails to meet this standard and does not sufficiently establish the necessary elements of the charges.”

It was a bad case.
I can’t explain exactly how, but she sure looks guilty. Having said that, I admit to not having many of the facts. This is strictly a gut call.
5 days ago:
Karen Read scolded by Judge for rolling her eyes and laughing in court as her lawyer spoke to the judge.
Not a surprise. She may not be guilty, but I didn’t care for her demeanor during the parts of the trial I saw on the news.
I didn’t care for her demeanor either.
Too many things on the case and in the evidence against Read do not make sense.
She’s not a prize, but the evidence seems to suggest a botched, small-town police department guys and pals coverup that ended up framing her.
I’ll maintain an open mind. Thanks for the feedback.
I honestly believe if you get a mistrial you shouldn’t be able to be tried again.
The case was a mess from the first minute the cops showed up.
My SIL is a trooper and his peers are shaking their head at how bush league these guys were. After all these years, these fools were still texting each other on work phones. So, their snarky remarks are in damned writing.
It makes them all look bad.
It wasn’t the small town cops…it was the State Police. They should be ashamed of themselves.
I agree and do not understand why double jeopardy does not apply but apparently it does. The state has unlimited resources to try you again and again and even if not convicted, they can destroy you.
“It was a bad case”.

My goodness, I can’t believe the number of FReepers who are making judgements based solely on “I don’t like how she looks…. or how she acts…. or her attitude…. or whatever”.
I followed this case and it is clearly 100% a frame job. The evidence for acquittal was overwhelming but one or two of the twelve jurors ignored the evidence and wouldn’t support acquittal apparently for the same ridiculous reasons as listed above (e.g., I don’t like how she looks). Friggin’ sad!
The prosecutors should just give up. Phooey!

"One or two"? Do you have a good link to that information?
Well, that does it then… who needs evidence. Hang the witch!
My own personal opinion, she was framed.
Yes, but they are all townie friends
