Metoprolol = βeta blocker, which would help slow down that 160 heart rate. It would possibly make my condition worse; βeta blockers nearly killed me twice, the second time it would have taken a bus load with the Navy Band aboard with me. I now refuse to take βeta blockers.
My son, a cardiac nurse, says that before the turn of the century cardiologists lobbied Congress to mandate that everyone be forced to take βeta blockers; they firmly believed that βeta blockers were a new miracle drug. Good thing cooler heads prevailed.
I know over the last two decades that I have talked with a few others with serious negative reactions to that family of drugs. That Congressional mandate could have resulted in an earlier CoViD type of scandalous disaster.
Hopefully in this instance the βeta blocker will do some positive good. 🤔
