Agreed....there is a big difference between something that is demonstrably untrue and a simple hyperbole.

They have been doing this with Trump all along. They call it a "lie" when Trump: (1) exaggerates; (2) gets a statistic wrong; (3) is imprecise; and (4) fails to achieve some stated goal.
But Biden can utter a whopper like "the border is under control" and it goes unchallenged. Not to mention his stories about Corn Pop, Big Mama, going to a black college, being arrested during the civil rights era, and all the rest. There might be some minor pushback or a little chortling, but no indignant claims that he's lying.
