Former No. 1 NFL draft pick JaMarcus Russell has been removed from the coaching staff at the high school he attended in Mobile, Alabama, and is facing a lawsuit accusing him of taking money meant as a donation to the school. Russell is facing a lawsuit alleging that he took a $74,000 check intended as a donation to the school and kept the money for himself. Chris Knowles, a local business owner who wrote the check, says Russell approached him about a donation to help the Williamson High School football team purchase weight room equipment, and Knowles gave Russell the donation by check. But the school allegedly never got any of that money, and Russell reportedly deposited it in a credit union and promptly withdrew $55,000 of that.

$74k. Doesn't compare with how much he 'stole' from Al Davis-$31 million. All he did was throw a football 100 yards while on his knees.

It's almost enough to compare Davis with Joe Biden.

Why can’t these people stay home and count their own money? I’d rather he spend it at strip clubs than take it away from high schoolers.

Could he have squandered that $31 million?

He was a first round draft pick! $74K should be chump change. Oh how the mighty have fallen.

$31 million, unless you have locked it up in income generating investments as a first thing, isn’t as much one thinks it is.

It seems like a lot of athletes get in financial trouble when their playing days are over.

They should be set for life financially with the money they make as professional athletes.

And yet many don’t seem to manage their money.

That's nothing. The government can do that in a minute or less.

Stole from his own high school alma mater.

Wow.

But with a name like “JaMarcus”, not too shocking.

Because most of these hood fools are just that - they have no idea how to be rich or even well off. They squander it all including often getting in trouble. It’s not too shocking if they lose their money, even the good players.

I’m guessing he didn’t major in financial planning at LSU. 😏

Of course, from what I know about college football players he probably didn’t even go to class.

I think I can make it last a long time too, because the first thing I would do is invest it and only keep my spending habits to what can be generated by the investment. I also think living on about $1.2 million/year, or so, should last somebody a lifetime.

I’d love to come across a $74,000 dollar check and keep it, but then this weird inner voice would keep telling me that was wrong, and I would end up handing the check to the police. But I’m not JaMarcus.

Exactly...I just calculated at 6 percent, it would bring in 1,860,000 per year...Even after taxes, that IS a good living...

Still… it is hard to go through $31M so quickly, which is multiples of what most of us earn in a lfetime. He couldn’t manage to put $10M aside? $5M?!
