[What will she tell this child?
Honey you have an older dead sibling we killed because he/she was imperfect?]

Probably nothing. The practical reality is that Down syndrome kids often preclude additional children, due to the additional cost of looking after them - often throughout their adult lives. Telling that kid you wouldn’t have had him if that notional Down syndrome sibling had been born is probably better left for his adult years.

One reason people have children is for posterity, so you have someone to pass on your genes. Another is to have someone to comfort you in your old age, when your life partner leaves this mortal coil. And a third is to have someone to organize a rousing send-off when the time comes. A Down syndrome kid can barely take care of himself, let alone do any of these things.

The problem
With that reasoning is that at any moment, any of us could become inconvenient to be cared for. Strokes, car accidents, falls, tumors, the list goes on.

You cannot state the value of life based on the ability to produce for another’s comfort.

Someone who is totally ignorant would say what you just said. Before you start euthanizing your fellow humans get the facts about the differences of Trisomy 18 and 21.Your low resolution single pixel thinking is clearly on display. Go educate yourself and while you are at it search for a little compassion for other human beings, surely not as perfect as you, but they still lead a much more meaningful life with infinitely more to offer this world.

Proud father of the world's most beautiful son with Down Syndrome. He has more to offer this world in his stubby little pinky than you ever will.
