Seriously, IF that canoe is 12’ long they are illegal. Meaning they are over the width restriction for any highway in the USA without a WIDE LOAD escort.
Even if they had it turned 90 degrees you are still required to have a RED flag attached to the back of anything protruding more than 3’ beyond the back of your vehicle.
This is why all BOATS that you are allowed to two on a standard trailer need to be a maximum width of 8’. A standard highway lane is 10’ wide. This canoe if is 12’ wide would overhang the center line of the road by at least one foot or more.
