A little trick I like to use with bothersome people is to say something that isn't quite right, and they will immediately rush out and do all the work in finding out the right answer, just so they can correct you.
Then you can point out that they simply verified the most significant part of what you said.

The only time this trick doesn't work is when they just don't bother to respond to your "error."
