Even the countries which fought with the Allies were sentenced to this punishment.
The Germans just go from one extreme to another.
In the 20th century they went from extreme Imperialism, to extreme decadence to extreme Fascism, to extreme f@ggotry.
In the early 19th century they were often seen as romantic, artistic, dreamy and rather effete.
It was only later that the duelling scars and extreme militarism came in.
Even the countries which fought with the Allies were sentenced to this punishment.
Were sentenced?
Your passive voice begs the question: Who sentenced the Allies?
Answer: The Allies sentenced themselves.
The Allies imposed guilt on the Germans. Then the Allies imposed guilt on themselves.
Why, is an interesting question. But you can't blame the Germans because the Allies became guilt-ridden after WW2.
Is that the Red Baron after he crashed?
