Growing up in the 1950s eating out was rare (so rare that the only time I can remember eating in a restaurant was when we were traveling).

We did have a lot of pic-nics (most likely someone’s birthday) and it was pot luck everyone bringing something.

If people were smart they would put away their credit cards (trying to pay the balance off) and only buy with cash. With the credit card it is way too easy to spend more money then you have and if you don’t pay off the balance each month that special meal out will end up costing more then you think.

Now is the time to be frugal. Everyone still working should assume they will soon lose their job and save accordingly.

When I was growing up we almost never went out to a restaurant.

When we were traveling, or on vacation. But even on vacation my mom brought powdered milk and cereal.

Going out to a restaurant was just not a thing.
