A ‘disgusting’ novel featuring a giant roach as the protagonist. It may actually be a good story. I don’t know. I just could never get past that visual image. I wanted nothing to do with that story or even that book after thinking about it.
I probably cheated myself out of some ‘culture’. Oh well.

I listened to Mark Steyn’s audiobook version of it. Some have theorized that the protagonist’s metamorphosis came from the way those around him (employer/parasitic family members) viewed/treated him.
It works just as straight horror, too.

I had to read it for an English class. It was pretty stupid as I found all the Existential literature I had to read for that class. Luckily it was a small part of the literature I had to read. My favorite was Beowulf.
Every time someone mentions existential threat I think about he stupid cockroach story.
