I hope not. The government has no business in saving this ship or supporting its upkeep!

Since the government funded its construction, funding dredging a place for it at an abandoned pier which is full of broken bottles and has become a homeless camp can be considered in the public interest. It's a maritime marvel, and well worth saving nearby the U.S.S. New Jersey, the U.S.S. Olympia, the Moshulu, and other historic vessels on the Delaware.

Private funds went into maintaining those vessels.

The taxpayer should not pay for the restoration of the SS United States. I’d chip in.
