The discovery of the remains of the ship from the 14th-13th century BCE proves that Late Bronze Age mariners could navigate the seas without a line of sight to the shore, contrary to what was previously believed, the IAA said. This discovery doesn't prove they could, just that they may have tried (or got blown off course).

This discovery wasn’t needed, because it has been well known for a long time already. This isn’t the first ancient deepwater wreck. There are bound to be more down there. But most ancient wrecks have been found near land because that’s where most wrecks have happened and continue to happen.
