A Florida public school employee who faces firing because she allowed her transgender daughter to play girls' high school volleyball hit out at the investigators who outed her child - claiming they destroyed her life.
Jessica Norton said her daughter was thriving at Monarch High School in Fort Lauderdale before an anonymous tipster notified a Broward County school board member in November that the 16-year-old was playing on the girls' varsity volleyball team in apparent violation of state law.
That tip launched a widespread investigation, that has resulted in Norton being suspended from her job as an information management specialist at Monarch High School. She now also faces possible termination for allowing her child to play on the girls' team.
She stood before school district officials on Tuesday to plead her case, and claimed the investigation has ruined her child's life. Norton described how her daughter had been elected both freshman and sophomore class president, was selected the student body's director of philanthropy and was even a homecoming princess.
That all ended when the investigation began, and her daughter was forced to leave Monarch.
'They destroyed her high school career and her lifelong memories,' Norton said.
'I saw the light in my daughter's eyes gleam with future plans of organizing and attending prom, participating in and leading senior class traditions, speaking at graduation and going off to college with the confidence and joy that any student like her would after a successful and encouraging high school experience. And 203 days ago, I watched as that life was extinguished.'
The girl now attends school online.
None of the board's nine members responded to Norton, a seven-year district employee who doubled as a volunteer coach and received stellar evaluations before the tip in November.

Mother used her position to get her boy special treatment, breaking the law in the process, and expected everyone else to go along with it and break the law themselves. She is the one who “destroyed” his life.

Excellent! I’m glad to see the law is working as intended in Florida. No, your mentally ill son cannot play on the girls’ team. If you abuse your position of authority to allow him to, we’ll fire your azz....THEN throw him off the girls’ team.
There is probably a young lady who didn’t make the team because of the boy granted a spot by mom.

Here we go- this should be punishable by prison at the very least. What a couple of monsters to put that child through this.

She claims she didn’t change the child’s gender in the computer - had someone else do it - but she did change the child’s name. What else did she change and not just of her child? Grades? Any disciplinary records for anyone? Did she violate people’s confidential information by using her position as ‘information management specialist’ to spy on people?
We need to bring back mental institutions.

What about Team road trips, shared motel/hotel rooms, shared sleeping arrangements?
What about automatic access (due to false identification as a female) to all female bathrooms, affecting not only the Team's real females but all school females?
That sad, dysfunctional pair of parents are fully and completely to blame for that boy's mucked up life.
He should have had heavy therapy instead of encouragement.

he should be sued by the parents of everyone they played. This is no different than fraudulently claiming to be a kid to play when you are actually a 25 year old adult.
The mentally ill boy now attends school online...
