Use the term "collectivism" instead of "leftism" - it is more precise and it does away with the nonsensical left-right spectrum with totalitarians on both ends that the Soviet Union came up with after WWII to trick the world's historians and journalists into forgetting that Stalin and Hitler had actually been allies.

All of these movements exalt the collective over the individual - and in doing so attract the eager support of weak individuals who foolishly think the collective will offer them permanent financial subsidies as a reward for their loyalty.
