The green-gold rush.
... A few years ago, in nearby Uruapan, the second-largest city in the state, 19 people were found hanging from an overpass, piled beneath a pedestrian bridge, or dumped on the roadside in various states of undress and dismemberment – a particularly gory incident that some experts believe emerged from cartel clashes over the multibillion-dollar trade.
...I asked if he’d encountered illegal avocados in Cherán. He said he had. Everyone knows the rules, he told me, “but there is still tension here, even now”. When avocados are discovered, patrols dig up the trees and destroy them. The offending planter will be sent to the town jail, where he’ll be forced to issue a formal apology and pay a fee. A repeat offender can have his land requisitioned by the government.
Michoacán’s avocado production went from about 800,000 tonnes in 2003 to more than 1.8m tonnes in 2022. Over the same period, the US’s avocado consumption quadrupled.

Emiliano Zapata's quotes:
"Better to die on your feet than to live a lifetime on your knees" "The land is for those who work it" "If there is no justice for the people, let there be no peace for the government" "I want to die being a slave to principles, not to men"
Zapata was assassinated by agents of Venustiano Carranza, Mexico's president and an opponent of Zapata's land reform agenda, at age 39.
There’s probably someone somewhere trying to develop an avacado tree that will flourish in the USA.
I was promised that global warming would make this possible.
Still waiting.
It’s from The Guardian, so naturally the article is full of crap.
So growing avocado means you are toast .......
Follow the money. In New Jersey, marijuana use is legal for adults, but you are forbidden to grow your own at home. In Mexico, if it doesn't line pockets of the powerful, it's forbidden.
I saw that!
The best avocados in the world are grown in Fallbrook California.
I live in the USA, and there are thousands of avocado trees flourishing in my area. The Hass avocado first appeared in 1926 four miles from where I am writing this.

Pls point us to your oracle of truth, justice, and the American way of life.
A link would help.
Most of our tomatoes, including all Roma tomatoes in the supermarkets are from Mexico--even in upscale markets like Whole Foods. It's best to get produce at farmers' markets.

YES!
But I do like avocado toast.
I lived in Fallbrook with a Marine roommate who was a range instructor at Camp Pendleton at the time and some of the avocado farm trees overgrew into our backyard.
The Avocados from Fallbrook and surrounding areas are very good.
Good thing the Mexican government is kept safe from armed citizens who might protect themselves from the cartels....
What is encouraging though, is villagers and favela residents are occasionally lynching sicarios, loan sharks, gangsters, and other scumbags in extremely brutal fashion. ALL without guns. They beat them to death with whatever they find and light them on fire. You can find the celebrations online if you have a strong stomach.
There are ads for Pancho variety avocados. Zone 8.
They already flourish in Socal...for the Haas variety.
There are several varieties that do well where the temp does not drop below 27deg...throughout most of CA.
But those are not the variety you see in the store.
The entire Gulf Coast should be able to grow them.
Italy, Mexico, and New Jersey, all run by mafias, are cut from the same cloth. Besides discovering the Americas, and misnaming the Indians in their pursuit of spice trade routes, Italians were more interested in pasta than spreading their seed like the horn dog Spanish.
Try an avocado grown in Mexico in Mexico. There’s no comparison. California avocados are like a 3rd generation photocopy.
