No one has mentioned the electric bill savings from the new refrigerators, I wonder if they have measured the electricity cost of the old ones they have from the 1990s?
I got rid of a 1990s fridge that was nice because of the cost of running it (and the uncertainty of how much life was left). If I could buy that same fridge brand new knowing I would get 30 years from it then the extra cost to run it might be worth it, but spending an extra 7 to 9 dollars every month for the old fridge was not worth it.
I am NOT buying the story about “the old ones cost at least $10 more a month to run:
I moved to N Nevada high desert-—where it can get pretty warm-—92 right now.
NO AIR CONDITIONING -—OLD ceiling fans-—But I have:
1965 Westinghouse ref/freezer That runs fine—even after being moved 5 times to different properties.
I have a 1972 G E upright freezer-—using every day.
Have 1 matching 1972 ref/freezer...
Have a 2008 Freezer-don’t remember the brand —I bought the day after Obama was elected.
THOSE 4 units alone——IF the “OLDER ONES TAKE $10 a month more EACH in POWER BILLS-—
Add this-—
came here with 6 horses & used 14—— 100 gallon water tanks made by Rubbermaid. When temps hit 90-—was filling those tanks every other day...well puts out 5 gallons a minute-—even 100 gallons takes 20 minutes.
Have had 2 TV’s running -—HE had computer running when I was still doing bookkeeping.
ALL the light bulbs in the house are 100 watt-—regular old fashioned bulbs. CANNOT stand the LED bulbs & they are EXPENSIVE. Have 4 “CAN LIGHTS in kitchen ceiling. Have can light over bathtub in master bath. HAVE CHANGED EXACTLY ONE OF THOSE BULBS IN 19 YEARS. Fixture over dining room table-—where my laptop is has 5 bulbs. THOSE get the most replacement action. Have 6 ceiling fan/lights with 3 bulbs each. HAVE NEVER replaced a bulb in guest bedroom ceiling fan light.
Have 2 motion sensor fixtures on garage—2 bulbs each...Rabbits & coyotes trip those randomly all night long.
Have 6 fluorescent 2 bulb units in garage. Have AIR COMPRESSOR.
MY heart is propane forced air. Cold here in winter. OW cold?
Kentucky Derby was MAY 4-—the next day—Sunday—it snowed 26” on Squaw Valley-—about 55 miles from me. GOOFY WEATHER.
I usually count on heater running Oct 15th to about March 15th.
Still had heat on in MAY.
MY power bills have been in the $75-$90 range across 19 years.
I TRULY do not think my bills would have been in the $35 to $50 range if I didn’t have the OLD ref/freezers, etc.
