One time in the 70’s, saw a piece of road that was maybe 1/4 mile long. Completely buried in water - several acres - by rain only. A couple of 4x4 trucks were there with their extra lights on it - it was astounding looking at water covering what I had seen for years as 2 fields with a long asphalt road up the middle. It looked like a churning lake.
A guy I knew and I were installing a spoiler on my Mach 1 that night - we ordered a pizza (for dine-in).
Soooooo, we went the other way through town - got maybe 1/4 mile from the pizza place - four-lane city street - also buried in water with a car stuck in the middle - the water was not too far from the top of the hood - the engine was likely all but submerged - at least to the valve covers.
So we gave up - there were other roads but it was looking pretty bad in several places and it was dark by then.
I don’t remember how many days it rained - it looked like some scenes out of “Hard Rain” if you’ve ever seen that movie.
Alvin on the outskirts of Houston got 43 inches of rain in 24 hours.
“In late July 1979, Tropical Storm Claudette made landfall in Texas and dumped a U.S.-record 43 inches of rain on Alvin in a 24-hour period, according to the National Weather Service.”
