A pageant queen who was crowned Miss National American Alabama 2024 is facing backlash from fans and former titleholders questioning the legitimacy of her title.
Sara Milliken, a plus-sized beauty pageant contestant, stirred controversy following her win over Memorial Day weekend as vicious trolls attacked her weight.
But now critics are voicing their confusion after several media outlets referred to Milliken as 'Miss Alabama.'
They were quick to point out the 23-year-old did not compete in the official Miss America competition.
One former winner, Miss Alabama Amie Beth Shaver, claimed she doesn't know what that contest 'even is.'
Shaver emphasized that there is only one recognized Miss Alabama title, which leads to the Miss America competition. In addition, there is Miss Alabama USA, which sends contestants to the Miss USA pageant.
'Miss America now is 101 years old and then Miss USA, which goes on the Miss Universe pageant,' Shaver told 1819news. 'But this National American Miss, no one has heard of it. I don't even know what it is.'
The winner of Miss Alabama USA in 2024 was Diane Westhoven.
Shaver claimed Miss America owns the rights to the 'Miss Alabama' title, so it is wrong to use that title for a different pageant.
'If you are a pageant person, you're only going to participate in either Miss America or Miss USA,' Shaver added.

No one connected with this is looking good.
Whoever handles publicity should not have allowed such confusion to take over.
Miss Obese Alabama
Every day is a new joke of making green red and red green.
Not to be insensitive, but this is a beauty pageant, right?
And we can all agree, she’s a pig, correct?
How far do we need to go pretending to have blinders on to let incompetent people compete and win?
As my wife said, instead of championing this poor girl, someone should live her enough to help her lose weight and become healthier.
She’s got more chins than Chinatown!
“plus-sized?” That’s a whale of an understatement.
I’d make Einstein ring and planetary mass jokes but that’s low hanging fruit.
This is just more woke “everyone is a winner” bs.
That there’s backlash is a good thing, but I expect beauty pageants to double, triple, and quadruple down on it.
Miss all beef patty
“Not to be insensitive, but this is a beauty pageant, right?”
Wrong.
NAM is a program based on the foundational principle of fostering positive self-image by enhancing natural beauty within.
Been hearing too much wacky...ness re: Alabama lately. Anybody working there to get to get things ‘straightened’ up?
> A pageant queen who was crowned Miss National American Alabama 2024… <
I guess anyone can set up a state beauty contest. Just be sure to pick a name that’s not already being used. So maybe a “Miss Grand America Alabama” next year.
And why not? It’s a free country.
She’s obese..not healthy not to be praised.
Don’t stand between her and a stack of large pizzas
The kid on the far right hasn’t been missing many meals, either.
I believe I've seen you post enough around here that I can take your clarification in the clarity it was meant. Good show!

Hmm. That’s actually not a bad idea. Too many girls are conditioned to chasing physical beauty, as if physical beauty is the primary way a woman should be judged.
But NAM, then how’s about ditching the fancy evening gowns? Casual business attire, maybe?
