if this bear took the time and effort to break into this house and kill that woman, he was hungry....
Yes, possibly but we dont really know why he broke in.
In areas where humans and bears live together closely it not uncommon for bears to break into homes to steal the bacon grease and a box of twinkies or something.
I know that not too far north of where I am that the people living in the woods tend to put all pork grease in a can tied in a plastic bag or two in the freezer to keep the smell down and stop by the dump to drop the can off on a frequent basis.
Its hard to say why the bear came in initially, if she saw it and tried to run down the hall or something she would have just been inviting the bear to pursue.
