Caitlin Clark was, as she usually is whenever she steps on the court, the story of the night - and with no on-court altercations or extra-curricular activity, the Iowa native just let it fly all evening long.
The No. 1 overall pick from this year's WNBA draft dropped 30 points in a 85-83 victory over the Washington Mystics on Friday night in Commissioner's Cup action.
Clark also had eight rebounds and six assists along with eight costly turnovers - double the next closest player - that kept the game close.
She iced the game late - hitting three out of four free throws in the final eleven seconds to keep the Mystics at bay and capping off a night where she went 8-15 from the field and 7-13 from beyond the arc.
Those seven triples tied a rookie record held concurrently with Crystal Robinson, formerly of the New York Liberty.

Basketball.
James Naismith, a [white] Canadian-American physical-education director, invented the game of basketball in 1891.
So SOME “cultural appropriation” (like straight hair and tap-dance) is okay for those with most-favored minority status, but not vice-versa (Rachel Dolezal excepted).
Caitlin Clark brings WNBA out of the closet (so to speak) as a game watched mostly by middle-aged lesbians to water cooler conversations across the nation by beating black athletes at a game they, due most likely to upbringing and several hundred years’ selective breeding while enslaved for traits like endurance, heat tolerance, strength, agility, and the race hustlers try and make Caitlin out to be an interloper, a pariah.
She’s crossed a line here. Not since the days of Bill Walton have all-American wypipo excelled at this game dominated by black Americans.
No, I don’t “do” organized sports, never have. But Caitlin’s in our faces 24/7 on ALL media - for all the wrong reasons, I think.
“Did you make that up by yourself?”
“Dropped” is a common basketball term.
... and it was thrilling for both people who bought tickets to watch the game.
“Caitlin Clark was, as she usually is whenever she steps on the court, the story of the night”
Meh, just another flavor-of-the-month media darling.
… as long as they don’t have to use a regulation-sized basketball.
Respectfully- the PGA wasn’t in a state of decline before Tiger Woods.
It was doing just fine - Tiger, however, took it to another level
I haven’t paid much attention to this, but that thought had crossed my mind as well.
Dropped into the bucket.
Right.
But the different sized balls sort of make sense for the different sized sexes. Also, would be a challenge for female players to shoot as well defended by larger, stronger men.
Kind of how lady golfers can be more competitive with men in putting than in driving.
What exercise and sport do you consider feminine?
Neither is it justified to make believe that the women’s game is the equivalent of the men’s game.
Yo White Dude,
Drops 30 means she MADE 30 points (as even most white folks know).
And for folks who didn’t catch the game she’s still getting hammered out there, just as what happens to most rookie baller phenoms.
Actually, its not bad figuring she’s only been in the league about 2 months. If they would have called legitimate fouls on her she would have opened up a 40 burger on them.
She’ll get better if when she stays focused and avoids the drama that swirling around out there. You still got a bunch of lesbian ballers out there (especially the no-talent black ones) hell bent on killing their golden goose.
Ask yourselves: Would we even be watching or even talking about this league if SHE wasn’t in it ?
The Indiana Fever (who sux right now) will get a lot better once their coach pulls her head out of her (expletive) and teaches these players How to box out for offensive rebounds.
There is of course more than a size difference between men and women physically, and to make it closer to an equivalent game you’d have to a bit shrink the court and lower the basket. Still, men’s upper body strength would make it an aesthetically different (and I’d admit, to me, preferable to watch) game.
But as long as the NBA wants to fund it and, of course, women want to play in it, there is nothing wrong with its existence as a league. I believe it is rather unmanly of men to complain about it—or to contort themselves to push the obvious, which is that men and women play basketball to a somewhat different effect.
Maybe Carter was high on speed.
Especially in basketball, I notice that they're much faster now and they're making better shots now. Must be due to the training and all the travel leagues they're in.
Shrink the court by 20%. Lower the rim by 10%
The height of the rim in the WNBA is the same as in the NBA, at 10 feet. However, some have suggested that lowering the rim to 9 feet could help the WNBA gain mainstream popularity and increase revenue.
Geez Louise...why do they have to talk about sex all the time?
I’ll bet the WNBA’s 1800 fans were thrilled.
I read today she is not being considered for the Olympics team. WTF?!
Well the basketball is smaller and lighter than the men’s. So there’s that.
