I look all the way through 1945 and I see a megalomaniac’s folly that led an entire nation to 4-5 million deaths (both military and nonmilitary) postwar occupation, partition into East/West (in some ways that will never be healed) and a diminished status for the next 50 years.

The great social welfare state (for the Deutsche Volk only) of the 3rd Reich, that you probably idolize, was not sustainable without the constant military expansion and occupation/enslavement of the Eastern lands.
Why couldn’t Germany stay contained in Germany and build their racial volkisch paradise there?
