Stephen A. Smith got heated when discussing the Caitlin Clark situation in the WNBA on "First Take" on Monday morning.
The prominent ESPN host said that WNBA players, who like the NBA are mostly Black, are likely jealous of Clark, who is white, and all of the attention she has been getting.
"There are girls – young ladies – in the WNBA who are jealous of Caitlin Clark. She is a White girl that has come into the league," Smith said.
"She has bursted onto the scene. She hasn’t proven herself yet. It’s not even about them thinking they’re better than her because they probably know it at this particular juncture because they’ve been playing on a level she just arrived to.
"One would think that folks would be smart enough to recognize and appreciate that about Caitlin Clark – piggyback off of that to their benefit and praise her and support her for it while competing on the court against her."
Clark, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, was pushed to the floor by Sky guard Chennedy Carter on Saturday. Carter later took shots at Clark, saying she doesn't do much besides shoot 3-pointers.
While it would be unfair to paint all WNBA players with a broad brush, it's certainly fair to think that at least some of them are jealous of the attention Clark has been receiving.
One thing people aren't mentioning is because of NIL some college players are making more than the WNBA players. The average salary for WNBA players is a little north of $100k. The top college players made a lot more than that. And it's only a couple years old, so most WNBA players didn't have a chance to earn this money. So, they may be mad these players make more than them.
There were twin players on Miami, the Cavinder twins, and they didn't even bother going into the WNBA, because they can make more on social media.
Ever work in a company with a large percentage of black women? They hate everyone. It’s sad.
What’s it called? The green eye of envy.
“The average salary for WNBA players is a little north of $100k.”
Clark, one of the highest paid NIL, gave up another year at Iowa to go pro.
Average salary is more like $75 to $80,000
Clark and Reese were making between $1.5 and $2 Million in College with NIL.
Pretty girls. They knew that the WNBA was not for them. Unless they're willing to sleep with Brittney Griner.
Where l was HR it was mostly back women. I hated going there. They would do as little as they could get away if you needed something. Getting info was like pulling teeth. You had to press hard to get a damn thing
Racists too who don't like her because she is white and they are not.
When they are old ladies wearing diapers in some piss-smelling nursing home I wish that they would have some regret at mistreating this virtuoso girl.
But being pinheads they will merely echo this obnoxious ESPN boor and rationalize it as the white girl exceeding her proper station in life, one which I suppose they believe involves being deferential to them.
And having seen some of the lowlights of the wnba they’re not even worth that much.
“”Ever work in a company with a large percentage of black women? They hate everyone. It’s sad.””
I would say that most of us never gave color a thought until obozo took office. What we’ve learned since about the women is they are LOUD - VERY LOUD!
First there are no ladies in the WNBA. I would say they are women, but nobody in that league know what a woman is, so let us just say they, penile challenged
Clark is getting the Jackie Robinson treatment.
It’s why going to the DMV is so painful, too
You think that's an obozo thing? Watch this, then tell me about loud:
but its a truth we dare not speak....that that color pretty much hates everybody else, especially palefaces...
and by God, they don't want any of the pale faces doing well in "their" sport.....
I read Caitlin Clark made $795,000 in NIL money. She made less than 10% of that in her first year WNBA salary, which was just $76,000. So, just on that, she took a huge pay cut. She played four years in college. Because of COVID, she could have had another year of eligibility, but it's not like she left early. She even played 30 games her freshman year. So, she may not have felt the need to play another year.
But don't worry, I don't think she's making less money, because, besides her WNBA salary, she's making a lot of money in endorsements.
She might as well be playing in the WNBA for free. She's making her real money in endorsements, merchandise, etc., she just needs to be playing in the WNBA now to make that money.
That Smith fella is pure genius.
Okay, but what do you respect more, someone who does something, like play basketball, or some one who just preens on social media?
She’s white and can play biscuitball.
Black women hate everyone. They also refuse to mentor or assist in developing other women of color or any other employee. Mentoring is a hugely important task for every employee, especially supervisors and managers. They by large refuse to do it, and even sabotage other women of color at every opportunity. It’s really bad.
