I did more research. Wiki used the wrong term.
His Dad was a country club pro, which means he gave lessons, managed the pro shop, monitored everything on the course, and attended a lot of CC social events.
Right. I knew he worked at the country club in some manner. The members loved him.
My ex was a golfer (would have, and could have, gone pro if not for Vietnam), and I recall that the guys in the stores were called “pros”.
