If not statistics... by what standards are you judging him by? Please share your sources. All of a sudden, some arcane player who played in the negro leagues in the 30s and 40s is being recognized as the greatest baseball player in history. Few baseball fans knew about him back then... Unless you are part of the liberal hive mind who is currently rewriting everything about American history, you probably had little awareness about him until very recently.

Big difference between knowing stats of negro league players of the 30’s, or MLB players for that matter, and knowing who Josh Gibson was or Babe Ruth.
How do we judge any player from way before we were born? By stats and what contemporaries said about them.
