AMEN!

I woke this morning thinking of Owen John Bagget, the WWII American airman who, having bailed out of his B-24 Liberator and was descending via parachute, drew a hand gun and shot a passing enemy pilot. My mind traced over some of the stories recorded about the bravery, suffering and sacrifices of members of our military, and I am so humbled by those who have served our country with everything they...and then gave even more.

It's not just the unusual, spoken of stories of those who fight which inspire awe, but also the queiter stories - ones where they endured threat and hardships, often so far from home, the extent of which most of us can't even fully comprehend.

I recall a WWII cartoon where one soldier in a trench thanks another soldier for saving his life by giving him his last pair of dry socks. The comments on that cartoon were quite moving, as a few who were there tried to explain how sitting in muddy trenches in the rain, listening to mortars and gunfire for months could sharpen the focus on the simple comfort of a pair of dry socks, and render them priceless.

God bless our heroes, and keep their sacrifices evergreen in our hearts. Thank You for blessing us with such warriors.
