I suspect that the 'Rat Party should have been outlawed in 1865 but perhaps that would have frustrated 'unity' following the war. The appearance of the Ku Klux Klan did plenty to destroy unity.
To clarify, as I believe, Roberts sent them a letter saying he would not meet with them and it’s up to individual justices themselves as to whether to recuse.
