Trump was convicted of the lowest grade felony, class E which is one step above a misdemeanor so the Dems have a convicted felon narrative for the 2024 campaign. A non violent class E felony for one with no priors generally results in a suspended sentence or probation, rarely a jail term. I would venture to say Bragg’s Manhattan DA office has NEVER recommended a jail term if they even ever decided to charge such a person in the first instance. Fat Boy is going to have to explain why this person is being recommended for jail when he has never recommended it for a non violent class E felony conviction of one with no priors in his history as DA

That's easy.

"Either...1) put Trump in jail and get an $8 million book deal and no legal blowback ... or, ... 2) take a night swim in the East River wearing cement buckets for shoes."

Which option do you think he'll take?

I don't see that as accurate and I don't hear any similar commentary from other legal pundits.

To my understanding there is NO identifiable crime that Trump has been convicted of and the only listed offense, fraudulent bookkeeping errors, is a misdemeanor whose statute of limitations had expired two year prior.

Bragg's prosecution team fabricated a never tried scheme of saying that the statute had not run out because it was used to perpetrate a felony - a felony that was implied but never charged! It wasn't charged because Bragg had no authority to bring such a charge - a federal campaign violation - and Trump was not allowed to bring in his campaign law expert because that would put the unchargeable campaign crime on the case court record.

Obviously a highly partisan jury was empaneled to convict Donald Trump of an unspecified crime - something never done before in American jurisprudence. Naturally the case will eventually be discarded on appeal but in the meantime, between now and the election in November, the Dems & cohorts can make hay claiming the Republican Presidential candidate is a convicted felon, maybe take the risk of trying to put him in prison.

Most likely the New York state appeal process is intended to consume a year or two time. Someone could try to force the U.S. Supreme Court to intervene immediately 'for the good of the country.' Do you see anyone making such a move? Certainly not the GOP.

At the Republican convention in July keep an eye on Nikki Haley and even Liz Cheney.
