Cops “insert themselves “ into situations all the time. We pay them to stand between us and trouble. You’re a special kind of stupid, aren’t you!
The police themselves know better than to get in front of or to attach themselves to a moving vehicle.
Their advice to cops?
“Don’t place yourself in danger.”
The cop didn’t “stand between us and trouble,” he stupidly grabbed at a moving car then claimed to be in danger (or he made up the whole thing). The cop created the dangerous situation then blamed Scheffler for the danger and it certainly could have led to Scheffler being shot.
Given the support of his Chief and that no other cop on scene would contradict the detective’s lies I would say that behavior is not isolated but rather pervasive in the department.
While she paints with a broad brush I do think MeganC points out a serious flaw in policing procedure.
