I think people who rub our noses in the fact that they’ve been here for “x amount of years”, meaning, I suppose, more than many others, are hubristic and self important. What difference does it make how many years anyone has been here? Does that make you better than others or more important?

Yes, yes it does.   Someone who has been around for 27 years versus someone who has been here only 6 years has a much better understanding of how this forum works.   We know the inside stories, shared jokes, purges, tolerable and intolerable offences and the hoaxes we've seen.   Most importantly we know we exist here in Jim Robinson's living room by his behest.   It's his forum and his format.   Deal with it.
