Survival camping in the 60’s in Fl, we learned about heart of palmetto, and while yucca isn’t a native species, we also tried it back then. as well as gator, snake, turtle, rabbit, and lots of birds but never possum or armadillo. also there were wild grapes, blackberries, and sassafras as well as fish and shellfish. fire ants, subdivisions and other invasive species really changed the ecology of fl.

I learned about fire ants on the first day of basic training at Ft. Benning. They coordinate their attacks, the rat basstids.
