The descriptions printed of his behavior in court yesterday, when Costello was on the stand, appear panicky, even by the low standards of all his previous behaviors. Could this be explained as fear of not getting the money or having to return it after having already destroyed his career future, or is there also a “stick” being wielded along with it? All speculation and today should be interesting as well.

I’m sure it is both. They always operate with several forks of redundancy. They got dirt on him too I’m sure.
