I know Teddy Roosevelt isn’t popular here, for some good reasons, but he thought that every boy should learn marksmanship with a rifle in school. It’s too bad that didn’t become the standard.

Being more than a century down the road from his time, I think it would be appropriate if the girls participated too and that handgun self defense training be included.

IMO two important things occur when a person learns to properly handle a firearm at a young age.

Irrational fears of guns are greatly lessened. The fantasies that movies, books and politicians put forth are more easily seen for the nonsense they are.

Rational fears ARE learned. IOWs a healthy respect for what firearms actually can do is understood.

I think that that demystification of firearms greatly reduces the chances that a person will mishandle or misuse a gun whether intentionally or unintentionally.

I don’t know why Teddy Roosevelt wouldn’t be popular but anyway, side note. He is a subject of ghost stories.

And he believed he saw what we today call, ‘Bigfoot’.
