If you're ever in DC for lunch or dinner, the Hotel Washington (est. 1917) on 15th St NW is directly east of the White House. The hotel has a rooftop restaurant that overlooks the Washington Monument and the Potomac, and also the Vue bar and grill that overlooks the White House roof—which is lined with snipers in swat black. From the Vue, you can see the AF1 helicopter landing in the back garden among the trees, but the trees also hide the President as he walks up to the back door. It's tempting to take photos looking down from there onto the White House, but I'm always careful when I lift any object in my hands across from that much firepower and surveillance.

As my 30 something children would say…”Heard!”
I totally agree with that.
P.S. I haven’t been in DC proper in a bazillion years. I have cousins in the area, but we visit them instead of DC. Last time I was in DC it was to watch the Air Force Falcons play their nemesis, Annapolis. We met AF friends there. Saw a couple of kids we know play football. It was a fun time. The WWII memorial was open so we took a pic there. That was in 2008 or 2009. I’m not sure which. No plans to go back. DC is an amazing place that has been bastardized. It’s not the place that I grew up to respect.
