It’s Utah. Maybe the family’s politics aren’t the school board’s cup of tea. Or it could be religion. My uncle lived in Utah for decades and his kids were little in the ‘60s and ‘70s. He wasn’t Mormon. He was persecuted in business, and his kids had a rough time both in school and socially. Dad never understood why he stayed.
I’d like to think that the Mormon culture has mellowed over the years and outsiders are more accepted.
