Hamas was paid off to keep the lid on things and it blew up in Mr. Netanyahu’s face.

The support of terrorist organizations by Western governments-intelligence agencies is a part of recent history in Libya and Syria along with Israel’s decision to use Hamas as some sort of a security buffer.
It’s all very sad IMHO but a reflection of weakness in Israel and the West.
