However there was a significant Russian victory that altered the course of the war.

The Battles of Khalkin Gol in 1939, where Japs went up against Zhukov, and got their butts kicked. From that point on, the Japs wanted nothing to do with the Soviet Union - a fact that Hitler might have liked to have known before he declared war on the US.
