The thing that has always puzzled me, is why a Jewish intellectual is so frequently drawn to SUPPORTING communistic or socialistic causes. Almost always, these communistic or socialistic causes gravitate toward anti-Semitism, turning upon the Jewish supporters within their ranks, and yet, the Jewish people cannot seem to shed their enthusiasm for the command-and-control traits inherent in the communistic or socialistic ideologies.
This enthusiasm extends to the economic sphere, and a general rejection of formal religious practice, substituting worship of the state for the worship of and belief in a divine Creator.
Which in manifold ways, this rejection of divine worship not only destroys what it means to even BE Jewish, but makes this rebellion against historic authority an even more grotesque misrepresentation of how the Jewish tradition should be seen by others.
I once pointed out to a very pro-socialist person of Jewish persuasion, that the term “Nazi” was a contraction of “NAtionalist soZIalist”, and was basically a socialist philosophy created by and for Germany. This person was apoplectic that “Nazi” should even be associated with “socialism”, but there you have it.
All command-and-control systems eventually degenerate into finding a scapegoat for all the ills of why the system does not work, and almost always, the Jewish people are singled out for the role. Not the only ones, of course, but one of the most easily isolated.
That has also puzzled me.
