I want 0-60 in 2.9 seconds! I can get it with electric for < 100K. In ICE it costs 1M$

A Corvette C8 beats that time. Official base price is $68K, real life price is probably closer to 100K.

I appreciate you sticking around to respond without rancor. I see electric cars as being for people in the right situation being a suitable 2nd or 3rd car for those with a garage for charging, and certainly for businesses that can recharge at night, provided that energy storage improves a lot more or on the fly electrical generation improves (the Chevy Volt/Toyota Mirai approach).

The Boring Company tunnel system is an interesting idea that relies on electric cars, but I don't think it will be practical in most parts of the world.

Electric cars are quieter (good thing), are inherently more complex (less likely to be able to deal with most problems by yourself or a handy pal or a 3rd party kludge of an unavailable part), torquier (good thing in the right hands), more expensive.

My philosophical objection to hybrids is that I don't want my electric motor lugging around a heavy ICE engine and transmission; I don't want my ICE engine lugging around a heavy battery.

I believe that for those who want the benefits of an EV without the present range anxiety issues, etc., the Mazda hybrid approach, using a constant speed rotary engine powering the generator is the best one available in the bear-term. A Wankel going at constant speed does away with transmission issues, and should be geared for maximum efficiency.

I do not see myself having any interest for an EV or hybrid for myself, but I do not consider myself a typical car owner.

Yeah, it’s the Model 3 performance that can do 0-60 in 2.9, which is the bottom model Tesla. I would say a corvette is is not the bottom chevy model.

The Tesla model S plaid is the fastest 0-60 ever tested (1.9 something) by most independent testers (like motor trend), and it’s a 4 door luxury car. I think that was back in 2023, and “production” is defined as > 100K units sold, which leaves out the “supercars”.

Tesla is coming out with a roadster that is aiming at UNDER 1.0 seconds 0-60. I expect that car though to come in at OVER 100K$. Perhaps 150K$.

BTW, my daily drive is a Roush Mustang GT. I have a CyberTruck on order (no, i turned down founder’s edition, as I don’t pay extra for badges, only performance)
ETA is probably EOY 2024. We also have a Ford F150 Super as a workhorse, it’s getting long of tooth, and will go. I just had to repair the electronics in the transmission. 100$ sensor of which the dealership and most trans shops whould have changed the transmission for (believe it or not it’s true) they wanted 5K rebuilt or 8K new.
