I would think the house is just a tourist attraction with people driving by.And therein lies the reason why they bought it to demolish it. The ruling class doesn't like peasants cruising their neighborhood.

They bought it. The government shouldn’t e able to tell them they can’t rebuild a house on their property because some cultural icon from 70 years ago slept there for a year or two.
