Society would be the old West all over again. You’re counting on human beings to do the right thing; that only happens now and then, and it’s worse now than it was then.
“Society would be the old West all over again. “
If you read about the ‘Wild West’ it was less wild than what we’re living in now. If you skeert, say you skeert.
The Old West was not like in the movies. First of all, it was mostly the military, via a system of forts, pushing the boundaries of the west. The main threat to life and property was Indian raiders
Therefore, settlements were opened under military protection/rule. When towns were incorporated, the first things that were created were sheriffs, and churches. Laws of many states incorporated this spirit of protecting public order above all. For example, most States once had specific eminent domain laws on "negative condemnation" - meaning if the state did not protect your property from "negative takings" (for example: thieving from organized crime, destruction by mobs, riots, etc.) the STATE was liable to compensate you! Its why political forces like BLM could not run rampant in the "old days."
These state laws were all eliminated by "progressives" from the 1930s-1960s.
I believe most towns in the "Old West" were quite peaceful. We only know the exceptions, because they are quite extraordinary.
