“Femi” doesn’t sound like a very British name to me.

And it isn’t. Web search says it’s a “gender-neutral name of Nigerian-Yoruba origin meaning ‘love me’” . . . ugh.

The fairly common Arab (Christian as well as Muslim) family name Habib means “beloved”. Maybe a similar idea. Lots of European names relate to ancestors’ professions. Now, former Cherokee Tribal Chief Wilma Mankiller had a really evocative name.
