When we moved to this place, we saw another property with 3 acres and lots of privacy. It was on a private road with a 1/2 mile long driveway. Lots of privacy. The owner must’ve been someone either in the tech industry, or someone kinda sorta important, or else in to illegal stuff. He had quite a setup in his basement with computers and all sorts of stuff I don’t quite know what that was. We didn’t inquire further.
Hubby reminded me that he was going to be traveling frequently, and that house was a little bit isolated, like in “The Shining”. He said, what if we get a bunch of snow and you’re locked in without knowing the neighbors? It gave me pause, and do you know what? He was exactly right! Central Indiana had way more snow than usual that year, and all I had was a regular snow shovel! No power tools for inclement weather.
The house we chose was the other one we loved. It had less property, but looks like a neighborhood on the front, and is a very privately wooded property in the back. It’s the best of both worlds. Our neighbors all appreciate privacy as much as we do. We are there for each other in emergencies, but leave each each other alone unless asked. The next door neighbor is an avid hunter, so we get some of his “extras” and never turn them down. Yesterday I gave his wife a container full of fresh oregano starts that was overgrown in my herb garden. It’s a really good relationship.
That sounds like a really nice set up!
