G Gordon Liddy was apparently behind the arrest of Timothy Leary for possession. Later after Leary got out of prison they went on tour together in a debate format, arguing the various social issues of the 70s. It was a big ticket event of the time... billed somewhat as ultra-right vs. ultra-left. Leary was nothing like the leftists of today, he was very libertarian with his ‘turn on, tune in and drop out’ which is hardly collectivist, more nihilist actually.
G. Gordon Liddy was one of my heroes. I bought large numbers of his book “Will” and gave them out to my friends.
What I remember from Leary’s lecture was his telling the audience that if they tried LSD, they should have someone in the room with them to protect them against bad trips.
