The concept you mentioned regarding raising kids went out the door probably beginning in the 70’s and completely gone in the 90’s. When I was with my parents as a kid I was never asked what I wanted.

The concept you mentioned regarding raising kids went out the door probably beginning in the 70’s and completely gone in the 90’s. When I was with my parents as a kid I was never asked what I wanted.

We were always given a choice.

Take it or leave it.

I'm the oldest of five and we didn't have much money, and my mom was not a short order cook. She made dinner and you either ate it or went hungry.

I realized even then that when most of the family likes something I don't, that I just eat it and don't complain, because they had to eat things they didn't like either when I liked it.

My mom also cooked basically for my dad, what he liked and how he liked it. If we went hungry, it was our fault.
