Can FReepers recommend a free or inexpensive EMAIL service which is not instituting facial biometric logons (looking to get away from GMAIL). Is PROTON email reasonable re security?

I've gotten a few FReepmails asking for email services recommendations and I don't have the technical background to either warn against or recommend such services. One FReeper said Google is soon going to implement facial recognition or thumbprint ID etc. - is there anything out there still 'reasonably' private and not shifting to biometrics...yet?

PS: Yes, I'm logged in. ;D

Few providers are worse than Gmail. "If there's no charge...."

Protonmail gets pretty good marks.

Whatever email service I use, it has to support POP3. I download my email from client servers to my PC. Unfortunately there aren’t too many of those left.

Proton good...Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook bad...
Tutanota good... Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook bad...

The good ones have end-to-end encryption...
The bad ones do not...

Here is a good source that discusses this

I have used ProtonMail and Calendar for years. The interface and functionality have improved over time.

I do pay a very modest annual fee for upgraded storage, (20G)

My primary concern was privacy and no Google.

Very happy!

What’s the opinion on Proton being owned by WEF?

How would gmail require these from people who are already users? The fast track tyranny makes me feel as though I can’t breathe....

i think it is more than just gmail- any site that requires a google account to sign in (Like google documents, google apps etc with will also be requiring face recognition too- just got a warning that now will require it-

I’ve been using Proton for years and I’m happy to pay the optional $5/month for its use. Their VPN product is also excellent although I’ve switched to AVG for its multi-product interaction.

They do, unfortunately. I myself received a "notification" from Gmail today. All about how gosh-darn CONVENIENT the use of biometric account confirmation will be, yada yada yada. What scares the feces outta me is the implication that, very soon, it will be FORCED on you. The concept of choice will be gone.

One thing I'm curious about regarding Proton is whether the recipient of a sent e-mail sees it in regular text, or encrypted. If so, how would they make the e-mail readable?

Did not know that. Might make peeps think twice. Is there a particular site you'd recommend, where a person could find out more?

Proton has no affiliation with the WEF whatsoever. We simply won an award given out by them to various startups once: https://t.co/SeNwOCh5De, and have since been featured on their website.—

I have both Gmail and Proton. I use Gmail for spam and Proton for important stuff like banking and medical that I want encrypted. No way I’m going to let that stuff go through Gmail. I also have a few other email addresses, like Apple mail, which is only for friends and family.

I just assume that Gmail is wide open for alphabet agencies to read. If they go biometric, I’ll delete it.
