I moved to Atlanta in the late 70’s. My first time driving the interstate encircling the city, I was driving the speed limit. A policeman pulled me over. Ii told him I thought I was going the speed limit and. He asked me if I lived at the address on my. DL. I explained I had just moved to the city.
He said the reason he pulled me over was to tell me I’d have drive a whole lot faster than the speed limit or I’d get killed.
I’ve lived in ATL since about that time. True story!
In that era, I always attributed the very high speeds on the highways in North Atlanta to Southern Stock Car heritage combined with modern German yuppiemobiles. There were a lot of BMWs, MBs and Audis on the roads, back then and now. BMW had a regional office in Sandy Springs back then, Road Atlanta was a big deal as well as Hampton, Porsche Cars North America was in Sandy Springs from perhaps the mid-90s until around 2015 (now by the airport), and of course now MB USA is in Sandy Springs.
I told him my ex-girlfriend had left me for a cop and I thought it was him trying to bring her back.
