Putin started the war because he wants the Soviet Union back. Putin did not start the war under Trump because Trump personally told Putin if he attacked Ukraine "there will be hell to pay." Putin waited until Trump was gone.

We fomented an illegal coup in Ukraine, installed a puppet government hostile to the ethnic Russian population in Ukraine and to Moscow, armed, funded and trained a 600,000 man Ukrainian army, teased NATO membership for Ukraine and were running biolabs with deadly pathogens in them.
If China or Russia had done anything like that in Mexico, WE WOULD HAVE INVADED, JUSTIFIABLY SO.
The Russians have far better reason to be in Ukraine than we did in either Iraq war.
At every turn, the Russia tried to prevent this war with Minsk Accords, by coming to us with their security concernes in 12/21 and in Turkey in March of 2022 where peace deal was killed by Boris Johnson.
